When I was a teenager, one evening unfolded that I have never forgotten.

My family and I were sitting together in the lounge, the door slightly ajar. The sveenties styled door handle, the kind you have to pull down to open, began to move. We watched as it pressed down on its own, the latch clicked, and the door eased shut.

Moments later, the heavy brass made lion-faced knocker on our front door began to 'knock'. The ring shaped knocker began to lift and fall. Three clear knocks, slow and deliberate, echoed through the hallway. There was no wind outside (not that wind could have lifted this heavy brass door knocker) no footsteps on the path, no one standing at the door. Only silence, and that brass metallic ring lifting and knocking all on its own!

I've experienced a lot of paranormal things in my lifetime so is by no means the least or it or the worst of it! But it has led me down this rabbit hole of wanting to know more not just about 'haunted door knobs' but the historical door knobs that led to a haunted room, a house, a place notorious for hauntings and ghostly activity!

And so, this series was born! All over the internet people are discussing their experiences with haunted door knobs, handles that move without warning, or antique fittings bought at estate sales that seem to carry a presence of their own. Searches for “door knob moving on its own,” “haunted door knob for sale,” and “haunted antique door hardware” show just how much curiosity surrounds these small pieces of metal and wood. They are beautiful objects, but they also make us wonder what might still linger in their grip.

As a person interested in all things vintage and antique (my home is filled with such esoteric treasures) this is a genuine fascination of mine. Imagine the volume of people who have touched the door knob of a famous bulding! The poiliticians, celebrities, historical figures, possible criminal figures, people who we've long been fascinated by. The door knob holds the history and possibly 'energies' of them all!

It's kind of exciting and thrilling to ponder.
